Employment supports for racialized disabled workers

Infographic

This infographic expands our understanding of how race and disability intersect to shape employment outcomes and provides actionable insights to enhance employment support systems. It was developed based on Eakam Grewal's masters research. Her work, funded by IDEA and SSHRC, explores the impact of race and disability on accessing employment support systems.

The infographic is informed by two peer-reviewed journal articles:

  • A scoping review that delves into the existing literature to identify barriers faced by racialized disabled workers in accessing employment services. The review highlights disparities and emphasizes the need for personalized support that addresses the complexities of intersecting identities.
  • A qualitative study, drawing on interviews with racialized disabled workers, service providers, and employers to explore their experiences navigating Canadian employment support systems. The study reveals gaps in employer education, government policy, and service provider training, emphasizing the need for capacity building to better serve workers with multiple intersecting identities.
